![]() ![]() Just when I thought the game was too much, I tried something different and it was a complete success.Moral of the story: This game rules! - View image here: -Oh, and transitioning from I-D to I-HT is going to be HARD. My city started taking off, it was great. After 3 fails, the first thing I did was take a loan and build a college. Anyway, it kept on failing about 2 years later. I had a save point at 12K people, I was about +$500/mo or so, but it was fluctuating a lot. My 2 good cities have sims that are 160+ at all ages. Don't bother trying to get HT industrial untill your average EQ is over 100, and preferably over 120. They don't mind being near manufacturing too much, and I treat high tech industrial like I treat commercial (Once I have the residential area developed nicely I am quite likely to check the desirability for HT industrial, and if it is high, drop large amounts of industrial right next to even rich residential, because I keep my poor industrial taxes at 10%+ and most of what moves in tends to be HT industrial. In order to have high demand for HT industrial, your sims need to be well educated. Dirty industrial is fine when you are starting out, but you want to get rid of it later on.Dirty industrial is bad to have anywhere near resedential. Well, I am not 100% sure, but I am fairly sure. The thing is, all dirty industrial I have seen has a wealth of 1, all manufacturing has a wealth of 2, and all HT has a wealth of 3. It sucks a lot of power, and dirty industrial sucks. ![]() Ignore fire protection for a long time, especially in your residential and commercial areas. Each block of residential I am talking about is made all of residential, made of blocks of 4x4 seperated by all roads, is 7 4x4 blocks wide and 6 or 7 tall, with perhaps some of the outlying ones being 3 or 4 4x4 blocks so they fit within the radius of the schools and clinics. If placed right, you can use 2 high schools for three of these patches of residential (They should be seperated by 4-6 squares so you can see where not to put the residential, and it makes for some good space for high tech industrial later on.Industrial is a pain. ![]() You might want to leave another 4x4 block open so you have a spot for a church or something (churches, mayors mansion make a noticable difference in the wealth of the people that live close by). Keep your residential as such that the center of each residential block has in it a small police station, an elementary school, leave a 4x4 block for a high school, and you will need a second clinic for each of these blocks of residential. It helps to build your city near an industrial boomtown (IE all industry and nothing else) as you can start with like 3x as much commercial as industrial then (So you don't need a fire station for a longer time). 5 elementary schools, 2 libraries (funded about 100 bucks a month each), 3 or 4 high schools, 1 large fire station, 3 small ones, 4 small police stations (Maybe 5), 2 large hospitals, 5 or 6 clinics, 1 community college, I didn't build the university. At the beginning, keep your residential *entirely seperate* from your commercial and industrial. Fills most of a medium sized map, I forget the population (A bit over 40k residents IIRC) but I need 2 coal power plants for it. ![]()
